Kajak and Rafting
Kayak
The river Cautin can be reached within a few minutes from La Suizandina. There are three interesting sections for kayaking on this river ranging between the second and the forth degree of difficulty.
One very good starting point is the village, Malalcahuello. You can launch your kayak approximately 6km from the village, where the road borders the river. This section is a two to three on the scale of difficulty.
After this point, kayaking becomes rather risky as the river loses height quickly and several spots are impassable. We recommend that you walk this part of the river first. Walking is also not exactly easy as the banks are quite steep; however, there are a few hidden entrance and exit possibilities.
After the Salto de la Princessa you can kayak further. During the next 12 km you will be treated to some interesting river sections and beautiful flowered or rocky banks. When you reach the area near the Indio waterfall, which falls sideways into the river Cautin, you can see six sided rocks. This unusual sight makes the spot perfect for resting and picture taking.
The Manchuria suspension bridge is a good exiting point and right next to the main road, at kilometer 68.5.
In the two hours that it takes until the next pick-up point (at the bridge, direction Conguillio, after Curacautín) the river, as well as the scenery vary. Depending on the water level, this passage, with its alternating calm and more demanding passages averages a three on the scale of difficulty.
Rafting
Until summertime the section described above can as also be navigated in a small raft (up to 3 people). It may be that the water level is too low in certain places and that you might have to get out and push before moving on. Nevertheless, it is still a wonderful and varied trip with interesting sections and nice scenery.
We'd be happy to let you know what the river Cautin's current water level is.
